The Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village (CTMHV) is set to bring history to life with the creation of the Heritage Christmas Village, a new annual event which launched in 2024. With $100,000 in funding from the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), this initiative will transform CTMHV into a year-round destination, expanding its programming to include an immersive holiday experience showcasing 19th-century Christmas traditions.
Led by the Historic Vehicle Society of Ontario, the project involves key upgrades to the Heritage Village, including:
· Winterizing the pavilion to allow for festive programming in a warm and welcoming space
· Developing scenic walking trails to enhance visitor experiences during holiday-themed activities
· Installing a sound system to bring the Christmas spirit to life throughout the Village.
With these enhancements underway, the Heritage Christmas Village is expected to launch again in 2025, setting the stage for an annual tradition that will attract visitors to Essex County and support tourism in the region.
