Exciting News! Kingsville Highland Games Find Permanent Home at the Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village!
The Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village (CTMHV) is delighted to share some thrilling news with all our friends and supporters. We are proud to announce that the Kingsville Highland Games have now found a permanent home nestled within our diverse array of events held on the Arner Townline.
At CTMHV, our mission is clear: “To preserve the past of Canada’s South for the education and interpretation of present and future generations.” And what better way to fulfill this mission than by celebrating Canada South’s Scottish & Celtic Heritage?
Scots have played a pivotal role in the history of Windsor and Essex County since the days of the North American fur trade in the late 1600s and 1700s. They stand as one of the ethnic communities with the deepest historic ties to Southwestern Ontario. Kingsville itself had been the proud host of Highland Games for nearly two decades until they disappeared in 1987.
But the Highland Games made their triumphant return in 2019, drawing a crowd of over 6,500 enthusiastic attendees. Though the pandemic temporarily interrupted this tradition, they worked diligently to bring it back to life. In 2023, with the support of Jack Miner’s Migratory Bird Sanctuary, they hosted the event at Ty Cobb Field. They where immensely grateful for their generosity, and the event successfully raised funds to support programs at the Sanctuary.
However, as the Highland Games continued to grow in popularity, it became clear that we needed a larger home for its future. That’s when the Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village stepped in.
Our Board of Directors at CTMHV has been overwhelmingly supportive of this initiative, and we are thrilled to have found a permanent home for the Kingsville-Essex Highland Games. The event will take place at the Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village on June 22nd, 2024, at 6155 Arner Townline, Kingsville.
This partnership represents a unique opportunity to celebrate the cultural heritage of Canada South in a setting that reflects its history and significance. We are excited to create enduring memories and invite you all to join us for this unforgettable event!
Stay tuned for more details and mark your calendars for a day filled with Scottish and Celtic traditions, music, and fun!
